Emily Elliott (1839-1924) (
DBHB's great x2 grandmother) was the granddaughter of
Alicia Boileau (1779-1851). The Boileaus were a
Huguenot family: minor Protestant nobility who fled France after the
revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. Through marriages to various more prominent noble families, the later Boileaus and their descendants can claim descent from royalty. These links were uncovered by the painstaking research of
James Sneyd, another descendant of the
Boileau family. Paul Tucker, an Elliott descendant, playfully followed the lines even further, to their (il)logical conclusion!
William the Conqueror (~1028-1087) and

[gx28] William the Conqueror (~1028-1087) and
Matilda of Flanders (~1031-1083).
French Kings

Margaret, Countess of Blois,
DBHB's great x23 grandmother could also claim descent from a whole line of French kings, which means that
DBHB can too:
[gx23] Margaret, Countess of Blois (1170-1230), daughter of
[gx24]
Alix of France (1151-~1198), daughter of
[gx25]
King Louis VII “the Young” of France (1120-1180), son of
[gx26]
King Louis VI “the Fat” of France (1081-1137), son of
[gx27]
King Philip I “the Amorous” of France (1052-1108), son of
[gx28]
King Henry I of France (1008-1060), son of
[gx29]
King Robert II “the Pious” of France (972-1031), son of
[gx30]
Hugh Capet, King of France (~939-996), son of
[gx31]

[gx34]
Robert III, Count of Worms (800-834), son of
[gx35]
Robert II, Count of Worms and Duke of Hesbaye (770-807).
Eleanor of Aquitaine and her ancestors

Margaret, Countess of Blois, was also the granddaughter of the redoubtable Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was the wife of first
King Louis VII “the Young” of France (1120-1180) and then
King Henry II of England (1133-1189):
[gx23] Margaret, Countess of Blois (1170-1230), daughter of
[gx24]
Alix of France (1151-~1198), daughter of
[gx25] Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204), daughter of
[gx26]
William X "the Saint", Duke of Aquitaine (1099-1137), son of
[gx27]
William IX "the Troubador", Duke of Aquitaine (1071-1126), son of
[gx28]
Guy-Geoffrey, William VIII, Duke of Aquitaine (1025-1086), son of
[gx29]

[gx33]
Ranulf II, Duke of Aquitaine (850-890), son of
[gx34]
Ranulf I, Duke of Aquitaine (820-866).
Alfred the Great (849-899)

Matilda of Flanders,
DBHB's great x27 (or x28) grandmother was a descendant of Alfred 'whoops I burnt the cakes' the Great:
[gx27] Matilda of Flanders (~1031-1083), daughter of
[gx28]
Baldwin V, Count of Flanders (~1012-1067), son of
[gx29]
Baldwin IV, Count of Flanders (980-1035), son of
[gx30]
Arnulf II, Count of Flanders (~960-987), son of
[gx31]
Baldwin III, Count of Flanders (940-962), son of
[gx32]
Arnulf I “the Great”, Count of Flanders (~890-965), son of
[gx33]
Ælfthryth of Wessex, Countess of Flanders (d.929), daughter of
[gx34] King Alfred the Great (849-899).
Cerdic of Wessex (d.534)

For his part, Alfred the Great claimed descent from Cerdic of Wessex, making Cerdic
DBHB's great x47 grandfather. That's him with his son Cynric as portrayed in the
2004 film King Arthur, in which - I'm sorry to say - they are the baddies.
[gx34] King Alfred the Great (849-899), son of
[gx35]
King Æthelwulf of Wessex, son of
[gx36]
King Egbert of Wessex, son of

[gx38] Eafa, son of
[gx39] Eoppa, son of
[gx40] Ingild, son of
[gx41]
Cenred of Wessex, son of
[gx42]
Ceolwold of Wessex, son of
[gx43]
Cutha Cathwulf (b.592), son of
[gx44]
Cuthwine of Wessex (b.565), son of
[gx45]
Ceawlin of Wessex, son of
[gx46]
Cynric of Wessex, son of
[gx47] Cerdic of Wessex (d.534).
Great Odin's beard!

Yes, the Norse god:
DBHB's great x56 grandfather, at least according to the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicles:
[gx47] Cerdic of Wessex (d.534), son of
[gx48] Elesa, son of

Matilda of Flanders was also (it was claimed) a descendant of Emperor Charlemagne:

[gx29]

[gx30]
Arnulf II, Count of Flanders (~960-987), son of
[gx31]
Baldwin III, Count of Flanders (940-962), son of
[gx32]
Arnulf I “the Great”, Count of Flanders (~890-965), son of
[gx33]
Baldwin II “the Bald”, Count of Flanders (~865-918), son of
[gx34]
Judith of Flanders (844-870), daughter of
[gx35]
Charles II “the Bald”, Holy Roman Emperor (823-877), son of
[gx36]
Emperor Louis “the Pious”, King of the Franks and of Aquitaine (778-840), son of
[gx37] Emperor Charlemagne (~742-814).
Would you Adam & Eve it?

And for the icing on the cake, Paul Tucker alerted
DBHB to an
8th century genealogy of the Carolingians supposedly linking Charlemagne, by way of some kings of Troy, all the way back to Adam and Eve themselves, which would make them
DBHB's great x142 grandparents! This may, however, be worse than fictitious; possibly being a deliberate
hoax of relatively modern origin. Still, just for fun, the whole lineage is reproduced below:
[gx37] Emperor Charlemagne (~742-814), son of
[gx38]
Pepin “the Short”, King of the Franks (d.768), son of
[gx39]

By Jove!

Since we're already knee-deep in spurious mythology, let's go the final nine yards! Dardanus, founder of Troy and
DBHB's great x117 grandfather according to the genealogy above, is one of the many sons of randy Zeus (a.k.a. Jupiter a.k.a. Jove). Dardanus' mother was Electra, one of the seven sisters called
the Pleiades, and like Zeus a descendant of Titans, and ultimately of Chaos.
[gx117] Dardanus, son of
[gx118]
Zeus /
Jupiter, son of
[gx119]
Cronos /
Saturn, son of
[gx120]

[gx121] Chaos!
[gx117] Dardanus, son of

Electra, daughter of
[gx119]
Atlas, son of
[gx120]
Iapetus, son of
[gx121]

Gaia, children of
[gx122] Chaos!
